Southern Counties Shooting
Southern Counties is situated in the heart of the County of Dorset, only 8 miles from the historic market town of Dorchester and 18 miles from the coastal resort of Weymouth, the home of the Olympic Sailing Event 2012.
Southern Counties Shooting was founded in 1959 and is now the largest shooting ground in the country with over 450 fully automatic traps offering DTL, ABT, Universal Trench, Olympic Trap, Double Trap, both Olympic and English Skeet, English Sporting, Sportrap and FITASC. Our sporting layout includes a grouse butt and our renowned 140 foot high tower.
Southern Counties is a CPSA Premier Plus shooting ground which is open Tuesdays to Sundays for competitions and practice, including coaching and corporate opportunities. The trap, skeet and double trap layouts are all equipped with new Laporte machines and Italian Electronica Progetti Computers enabling live results of these competitions to be found on www.gestgare.com
The ground has hosted numerous National and International Competitions including in 2009, the Fitasc Universal Trench World Championships, the Dougall DTL weekend and both Olympic Trap and Fitasc Home Internationals. In 2010 in conjunction with British Shooting and West Dorset District Council, Southern Counties hosted the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. Competitors from all over the World took part in the three Olympic Shotgun Disciplines of Skeet, Trap and Double Trap.
This year we were awarded as the Official Training Ground for the 2012 London Olympics and absolutely delighted to Congratulate Dorset's Peter Wilson for winning the Double Trap Gold Medal - just brilliant Peter.
